In Tonga, mothers are revered as pillars of strength and the heart of the family. This day is a time to express gratitude and appreciation for the unconditional love and sacrifices of mothers everywhere. Mother’s Day isn’t just for biological mothers. Grandmothers and aunts are also celebrated for the love and support they provide.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Families come together to honor their matriarchs ranging from homemade meals to gifts and acts of service. Along the roadside you will see people selling cakes and pies of all flavors as a Sunday treat for Mothers after church. <\/span><\/p>\n Likewise, Churches of all denominations hold special programs catered to honouring and recognising the mothers of the congregation. Fathers hold a special place in Tongan culture, serving as protectors, providers, and mentors to their families. <\/span><\/p>\n Father’s Day is a time to honor their guidance, wisdom, and unwavering support. This also includes grandfathers and uncles. Families gather to celebrate with a Sunday umu feast and give gifts, ranging from heartfelt speeches to acts of service and spending quality time with the head of the family. <\/span><\/p>\n Churches also hold special programs to highlight all the fathers on their special day.
